I'm no longer that obsessed with cleanliness.
But at one point, I couldn't sleep if I knew there was a strand of hair on the floor of my room. I had to pick it up before I could sleep soundly. Thank God I'm no longer like that anymore.

My husband worries as I have no duster
Spit on a hand to smooth hair, on a child, on photo day is good
current antibiotic count is minimal gargle with salt - until I see white on a tonsil
I'm with Jen - domestos is a friend
and after having four healthy kids free of allergies - that played in dirt
I'd have to say I'm not too bright in cleanliness obsession!

I like cleanliness, but I'm not obsessed with it. I have a harder time keeping down clutter.

I am slightly obsessed with personal hygiene. I always need to look and feel good. Personally I don't think it is a bad obsession.

It's not particularly healthy to be obscessed about anything, and for some very good reasons, especially "cleanliness". All these antibacterial products floating around these days, for example. People do not realize that they could be setting themselves up for a nasty situation some day. You keep on zapping bacteria wholesale, you are actually creating mutated forms of that bacteria that are resistent to your "weapons" and some day the weapon you desperately need to work..... an antibiotic..... wont, because the organisms invading you are super-survivors of your antibacterial vengeance on them over a long period of time.
My parents believed it was healthy to let a kid get out in the yard and get thoroughly dirty. Building up the child's natural immunity and tolerance of all kinds of elements that human beings are so fond of being afraid of. My strong belief, supported by an increasing number of doctors these days, is that this is the reason why so many children are suffering from allergies. Their mothers are so obscessed with "clean" that the kids don't get the chance to interract with all kinds of potential allergens so that the body can become used to them. Kids need some dirt, and, for that matter, so do adults.
Man has lived for millions of years in a perfectly good symbiotic relationship with all kinds of organisms. Our own body immune system keeps them in check. When we begin trying to attack those organisms with chemicals and other substances, they fight back, and it is ultimately a war that we cannot win.
Personal body hygiene should also be sensible and not obscessive. People who take multiple showers every day are doing themselves no favors. We have vitally important organisms living on our skins that actually defend us against invaders that could harm us. They do this by controlling their numbers. When you keep scrubbing your body under the shower, you are washing off not only the "bad guys" but the good guys too, and the bad guys, just like those weeds in the garden, tend to be very good survivors. They may well make a faster comeback on your skin than the good organisms whose job it is to control them.
The rule should always be "reasonable, not excessive". We've got multiple dogs with "full membership rights" in this family, which means they can come and go between house and yard as they choose. A little dirt comes in on their feet? so what! No more than comes in on our own feet. A little surface dust here and there? So what! It's a big house, and I am not going to spend every waking minute walking around with a dusting cloth. Clean bathroom, definitely, because it is a place where infective organisms could quickly proliferate. Clean kitchen work surface, for sure. It just makes good sense to be preparing food that's going to get on your insides, under some strict hygienic conditions. These two places, given extra attention, along with sensible personal hygiene, and handwashing at all the obvious times, are all the rules you need to keep you and your family well and safe. And I am absolutely opposed to all these "fancy smells" scented oil containers that you plug in to an outlet, cans of "air fresheners" spray bottles of "fabric fresheners"... you are just filling your house with more and more chemicals and in the long haul, you are doing yourself, your air passages and your lungs progressive harm.
I think my parents' healthy and sensible attitude is largely responsible for my own good health and strong immune system today. I am completely tolerant of all kinds of allergenic substances that have my friends and neighbors sneezing and spluttering. And to their perpetual chagrin, I am totally immune to poison oak and poison ivy. To me they are delightful plants that I happily allow to grow around the house lol.
