Hi, I'm 40+1 weeks pregnant and have a midwife appointment tomorrow. I have been very fortunate and not had any problems so far in this pregnancy, I am not uncomfortable at all - does this mean I am less likely to be offered a membrane sweep or will it be done routinely? Also, does it hurt?? And will I have to be booked into hospital to have it done at a separate appointment, or might she just do it then and there tomorrow?

I have had this procedure done and unfortunately it is a little painful, but will usually help the labour process along. You may not need it and already be partially dilated already without realising. If they think it is necessary, they can do that procedure in a doc surgery quite simply.

No worse than a regular pap smear test. I had one done and didnt even realise the doc had done it until he told me afterwards, I thought it was just a routine internal at the time.
Just relax and take a deep breath, think of something nice and it'll be over in a minute, because it only takes a minute, literally

comparable precise difficulty got here about to me and no she did no longer sweep your membranes. while It did take place for me i substitute into 39 weeks and 3 days, getting brought about, and it wasn't painful for me using fact i substitute into numb from the epidural. If I hadn't had the epidural i think of it might've been somewhat uncomfortable. i do no longer understand approximately painful. I had somewhat blood and discharge although after my cervix substitute into checked too.

she will do it there and then. it doesnt hurt but it can be quite uncomfortable. it depends if your cervix is still high or not ( eg, the higher your cervix, the higher up they have 2 go)
all she will do is insert 2 fingers inside u and u will then feel her doing a circle motion. it only takes 2 minutes.
i had mine on my due date so u should ask her 2 do it as it might speed things up.
my cervix was still high when i had it so she said it might not work. i delivered 5 days later
good luck

i had it done with both of my children the midwife will normal ask you if you want it done but if not ask her. it doesn't hurt just a bit of strange feeling. the midwife will do it either at the doctors or at your home. i had one at the doctors and one at home.

it doesn't always work, i had it 7 days after my due date and went into labor 3 days later good luck

It hurt like hell for me, it got me to 2 cms and then they started me off intraveneously, i think they tried about 3 times but I was in abject agony, they had to hold me down on the bed, the doctor told me I was quite small down there so maybe it does'nt hurt as much for everyone.

Goodluck!

its not comfortable, but its not PAINFUL either.

If you arent uncomfortable with pregnancy at this point, see what she says...they usually ask before they do that.
