25 years and it is now time to run a Mazda Rotary engine compression test. I think a New 12b motor would be what your looking at. However I have seen those carburetor's vacuum operated secondaries stick and not open. Look straight down the throttle bores on the non choke flap side and floor the throttle look for the secondary to open all the way. Lot's of penetrating oil and small rod to work the butterfly open and closed with the cable operated primary's held open with a stick inside the car depressing the accelerator pedal. I also have seen exhaust systems cause low power. Good luck

I had that car three times. I had that problem before. It can be either four things. One is the alternator the reason for that is because if your battery is not to good and your alternator isn't either , the high rpms make the alternator work well which feeds the cpu of the car the command to work normal. The other can be the mass flow air sensor. The third thing can be a leak in the Tranny or Motor. The fourth and last thing can be The ignition coil and the whole spark plug combo . Good luck!!!!

There may be a loss of compression or as suggested carberation problems. You don't mention what type transmission you have.
But the problem may be far away from the engine, like dragging breaks or dif problems.
It could just be the coil/s.
I have also seen distributors no work right. Many of these have a mechanical advance as well as a vacuum one. If the mechanical one is not working (or the vacuum for that matter) these symptoms may betray it.
Put a timing light on it and make sure you have the right timing. While you are at it verify that the advance is working by playing with the throttle.

Check your transmission. I have a 80' Honda Civic that had the same problem, and all it needed was for the tranny to be cleaned.
