Whats the best way to clean carpets?

With using a steamer cleaner? My want to give my bedroom carpet a good clean and was wondering whats the best way to do it. Its a cream carpet but after a couple of years its got a little dirty. Cheers

Don't want a steam cleaner!! I only have a small bedroom carpet and don't want to wast £25 when I can shrub it myself.

I decided to buy a good steam carpet cleaner for around $225, rather than pay $45-$75 each time I wanted 3-4 rooms carpets cleaned. I got a Bissell steam cleaner that will last years, and I let my friends use it and they love it. It cleans as well as the cleaning services.

Well, you can rent a carpet cleaning machine from most chain/grocery stores so the price can vary somewhat. So, you might want to call around and get the BEST price. Also, if you can remove your bed or place your bed off the carpet to clean as much of the rug as possible and maybe to dry the carpet faster have a fan or two running to speed up the process... This will also prohibit any mildew growth... Just start from one end of the carpet to the other... Depending on the dirt you may have to give the carpet a couple passes. If its' only one room it won't take long... Also, you may want to buy a can of SCOTCHGUARD fabric protector to keep the carpet looking good and easier to wipe up stains.. Good luck

A steam cleaner can shrink your carpet. Your best off with a good quality shampooing machine.
If you want to do it yourself use the original 1001 it works really well but it's quite hard work.

Vanish carpet foam. You can buy it in the supermarket. It's ideal for small spaces.
