OK, I just want an entry level or whatever receptionist job. I'm pretty cute, or so I tell myself. I just want to find something in an office setting/data entry with decent MS word and intermediate excel situated in downtown oakland or LAKE MERRITT.
I am soooo tired of looking and applying online for the past 3 months, when I know that if given the chance, I'll go beyond what is expected of me.
LOOK, anyone out there around Oakland, Lake Merritt with a legit offer, I'm waiting!!! Any home business emails will automattically be considered spam so don't bother sending them.
I just want a regular daytime job. 7 - 3, 8-4, 9-5, 10 -6.... please give me a hand!!! I'm honest, hard working, cute, and have a quirky sense of humor.
Ok, my venting is done... geeze, I'm going to get a ton of home business crap emails aren't I?!!!

Look, just to clearify. I'm not trying to go on my looks by any means. I have actual skills and those are what I'm trying to use.
Thanks for all the support and that one guy who totally missed the mark, try again next time.

Have you signed up with an employement agency like Kelley Services or Manpower (yes, Manpower has an office job recruiting service)? They can help you find what you're looking for. Additionally they'll test your skills (Excel, etc) and might give you certificates showing your level. They also frequently provide free, self-paced, on-line training so you can increase your skills yourself and get new, updated certificates.

I give terrible interviews and have a hard time finding a job because of it. I turned to these sorts of services to "get my foot in the door" of a company. Almost immediately I went to work for a very desireable company that was knows to use lots of temp-to-hire help and not ever actually hire them. There were people who'd been there over a year and still weren't hired on. I knew this but needed a job.

If you're anything like me, the same thing will happen. I was hired on after only ONE month!

It doesn't matter how old you are or what negative stereotype you may have about using a temp agency. It's worth a try.

Just keep trying and keep your options open. Sometimes the job that you are seeking will come from taking a job elsewhere because the skills and experience - although not the same - will translate into someone who is dependable, willling to do what's needed to get the job done, and can learn new skills at the same time.

Also, by taking a position other than what you are seeking, you may find that you have other interests and it can be a springboard to another "different" career choice.

For example:
I'm in my seventh career, I have a 4 yr degree in computer science and I have worked in my field for 20 years prior to my present solo business venture which has nothing to do with computers.

With today's market, you're still up against 100-150 people for each job listed in the paper so the odds aren't good.

It took me almost a year to find work, and I've got office skills up the yin yang.

Try some of the temp to hire places, the placement services. I had very good luck with those, getting called back three times at one place they put me at, and eventually got hired full time to work there. I can recommend Remedy Staffing (not sure if they're national) and Adecco, both kept me working. I had NO luck with Manpower.
