Yes. I went to the philippians with my Bf because that is where he is originally from. I stayed there for about a month with him.
I could not understand anything that they said.
The only people that could speak english 100% were the young children because they are learning to speak english in school.
I know now how to speak some basic tagalog(what their language is called).
The experience was amazing.

not a bad question. I lived for a short time in a Spanish speaking country and i remember after a two days fight with my girlfriend, I was already struggling with the isolation of not speaking the language. I was with an Italian girl, and if she did not translate to English , I was banished to silence.
I think if i lived in foreign country I would have to learn the language to keep my sanity

I lived in Italy once. The advantage is that you learn a new language easily. The disadvantage is that it can be hard to get around non-tourist places, since some locals don't speak English.
But sure, I'd like to do it again.

It depends where we are going to be living. I could live in France or Italy but if you are talking a third world country then I think I would prefer to stay at home.

Yes, most people speak English anyway so it doesn't really matter about knowing their language.
