Yes the old world Roman Catholic Churches of antiquity are the most esthetically beautiful churches, but in most cases the contemporary competition was destroyed by Christians. The same destruction or gutting happened to many beautiful Roman Catholic Churches when Muslims overran a country.

as long as their is life on you or me and otheir people then we can make a better church beautiful and even breath taking.
Let me put it this way we are all walking church.......... where ever you go your own heart always listen in your prayer and your need of hope and so on. Because heart understand it needs. Church only understand more people more money and more power. There are so many good people today and yet ther is still poor people in this world?

Im a witch - i love catholic churches - but some of the oldest ones in europe are built on the skeletons and frames and foundations of pagan and celtic churches throughout, and especially , the UK....
So undoubted it would be to say that the designs of catholic churches would hold true to the designs and architecture or european namely UK catholic churches.....
but ulimately, YES, they are beautiful structures - without comment on their contents.

no way, they are as gaudy as a plastic covered sofa in a Brooklyn living room.
If you want to see truly beautiful architecture from a church, do a Google image search for "stave churches" and see what the scandanavians made.
