They're anglophiles or they might be part british ( you know the whole british empire thing led to a lot of people having one indian parent and one british) so the ones cheering may have some brit ancestors

Just because you are from a certain area doesn't mean that you have to cheer for the team from that area. Another thought is that they were upset with their country and were using the game as a protest.
