USB port grounding problem?

My computer stops working when I plug a stick (usb). I know it is something with grounding but I do not know how to fix this problem. Can anyone can teach me how to fix this? Or do I have to replace something? Thanks in advance.

U don't say what system you have, but I have heard some "branded" PCs have an issue with misaligned USB ports. If you have a short USB extension cable (many USB keys and dongles come with one) connect that with PC OFF.
Connect the devices to that. If that is OK, invest in a USB2 hub, and use that for devices to connect to.
