My friend has a corolla and has opened one of the clips of the air filter lid....the engine sound is much lower and he claims that it gives him better performance. By opening the clip, will the engine be damaged in any way?

OK
1. It's a corolla dude there IS NO performance at all!

2. Your buddy is an idiot! All he is getting is a different sound from the intake and a lot of dirt going into the engine.

3. The intake system is designed to run a certain way so he could actually be degrading any performance the car might have had.

Tell him to get a K & N filter and it will increase air flow to the engine with out having to open any clips. Frankly I wouldn't bother because like I said a corolla ain't no performance car.

No. The air filter should be made from low density sponge rubber and coated in a filter oil to improve performance. Releasing the clips will allow air to move around the filter and damage the engine as well as altering the vacuum.

Use a quality synthetic oil

the engine will be damaged by the entry of dirty air into the engine. what your friend has done will increase the induction noise and it will seem to go faster but the reality is that just doing that will have very little effect on the performance of the car.

Well if it is that important to him he should just throw the whole thing away, then the engine can really breath! All he is doing is allowing some unfiltered air past, which sucks contaminants into the engine. I hope he really doesn't think he has discovered something missed by professional engineers in their millions of dollars worth of research.

overall performance: extra air, extra gas, extra combustion, extra skill. yet, extra air could additionally advise extra particulate be counted (airborne dirt and dirt) which skill positioned on on some engine areas and clogging of others. good overall performance filters furnish you with extra air and extra skill, plus do no longer sacrifice the filtering out of particulates (they use extra stepped forward components and weaves that provide extra beneficial air intake that alongside with an oil base do a large activity of filtering). much low-priced overall performance filters furnish you with extra air and extra particulates (no longer good on your engine). So the respond is: good extreme overall performance filter out platforms improve horse skill and secure practices, so won't harm your engine. much low-priced perfomance filters improve horse skill, yet on the price of engine positioned on and larger upkeep themes using undesirable filtration. I have not have been given any vested activity, yet I even have put in a perfomance filter out device and for the justifications i discussed I chosen ok & N.

NO IT is just sucking up more air and making alittle more noise. tell him to buy a cold air intake or a short ram intake like from Kragens auto parts or AutoZone.
or even cheaper just buy a K&N brand factory replacement filter. as for engine damage don't worry. he will be making more stops at the gas station.

with performance there are costs....the filter keeps out dirt and keeps the oil from becoming dirty and scoring the cylinder walls...the performance is negligeble so why would you want to suck dirty air into your engine?

Your friend is an idiot. He knows nothing about engines & should not be allowed to open the hood.

dude dont ever do this coz by changing the distance even you may destroy its spark capacity , and hence the car will not start or would take time.
