Why is it that the bus is so much cheaper now than the train?

Anyone can explain?

How much do you think buses are replacing train travel within the UK and Europe? Why?

When did this really start to happen?

I don't think it is, and judging by the number of serious coach crashes we've had (UK) recently, people are not being encouraged to do so when trains and planes are so much quicker even if far more expensive - but they have far higher operating expenses ! ! !

The bus has always been cheaper than the train, that has been the only way it would get any passengers.

The train is not loosing passengers to the bus.

The new way to travel international is flying.
But with the high speed trains the trains do not loose that much customers.
I think that international bus travel is only still alive because it is dirt cheap, and even so I would not want to use them. (Even less after hearing experiences of people who used them.)

In the UK the bus is an alternative for relatively long distances, but that is the only country where they did get or keep a hold.
Maybe that is because the trains in the UK are expensive, slow and not reliable?
But within one country it is the car that is taking the place of the train, not the bus, not even in the UK.
