My due date for my 2nd child is 5 days from now and I have not been checked by the Dr. yet to see how far along I am..... Is this unusual? I was getting checked every week from 36 weeks on for my 1st. How long does it take to drop completely and how long after you drop does labor start? At the Drs. on Aug. 27th I was told that the baby was 3/4 the way down...... And at my last appointment on Sept 5th I was told the baby's heart beat was fairly high and if there was a decrease in movement to go to the hospital.......... it really didnt help me out on what I wanted to know.

You should have been checked by now. Several times.
As to dropping and the onset of labor,,every woman is different. Usually once the baby has dropped, labor is not far off. You may pass your due date, it's perfectly normal. But if you pass it by too much, be concerned.
My first was two weeks late and I was REALLY big, I had to have my labor induced, then ended up having a c-section because he was so large (9lbs, 14oz). He just wouldn't come out, lol.

Babies will come in their own sweet time! :-) Your best bet is to call the Dr., Info here won't help too much. While you are waiting...just think how much weight you are going to lose! You are going to finally be that great self you are, and you've waited quite a few months! Best get lots of rest now and don't worry, because you know you will need it later!
Concentrate on the rewards...worrying too much now will just upset you more. Hopefully, the labor will be quicker, this is your second!

Yes, it can be normal because it is about your due time and when you are having pains, that will be the strongest indication. You 'may' go longer than the 5 days, too. Just keep in touch w/the Dr. by giving a little call to reassure yourself and to get that info. that you need. I always did alot of squatting to help open up the pelvis a bit. [I've had 3 but my youngest is now 26!]

Congratulations! You are just about there! Best wishes!

It sounds like your doctor knows that checking dilation before labor starts doesn't yeild any reliable information and increases risk of infection!

In a second labor the baby frequently doesn't drop until labor has begun.

I have had four pregnancies. I was never checked until I was in labor.
