I dont want to offend anyone so please dont take this the wrong way. Iv always wondered this... if gay people are ment to be gay or are born gay, then why do men act like woman and woman act like men? im dont mean all of them and i like gay people its just that all the people iv met have been either feminine (men) or shave their heads and dress like men (lesbians) so i dont understand it all. If people were ment to be attracted to the same sex aswell then wouldnt men act like men and woman act like woman? plaese dont be offended im not gay so just class me as naive.

Just like there are all types of straight people, there are all types of gay people. You're referring to particular subgroups within the GLBT community. Not all lesbians are butch; there are what are known as 'lip stick' lesbians as well. That is, lesbians who enjoy dressing in a typically feminine way.

Among gay men there are groups who are defined as being 'bears' - usually hairy men; 'twinks' - usually young, smooth and sometimes effeminate men; there are also just your ordinary, run of the mill guys who happen to be gay.

Most of these subgroups have a particularl type of culture that goes with it. As is often the case, it's the subgroups who are most prominent and create a stereotype for the rest of the gay community that is only partially correct.

If you look at straight people, there are the 'Valley Girls', punks, neo-Nazis, corporate 'suits' and so on. Yet nobody seems to think they represent all straight people. Carson Kressley is hardly representative of all gay men - as a gay man myself, I can't stand him!

Some people (not just the LGBT) community feel more masculine or feminine, so therefore they will express that on the outside because it is how they feel on the inside.

"if gay people are ment to be gay or are born gay, then why do men act like woman and woman act like men?"

"if gay people are ment to be gay or are born gay" has no revlavance to "then why do men act like woman and woman act like men?" I can't answer that for you BUT I can give you my opinion on being born homosexual. Let me just say first, I believe you ARE born homosexual. You don't just wake up one day and say "Im gay!" it just does not make sense. I think if it was a choice to be homosexual, then homosexuality wouldn't exist. Why? Who wants to have all their marriage rights ripped away, who wants to be hated, who wants to be frowned upon in most communities? It IS NOT a choice. I believe, homosexuals are born gay.

BACK TO THE ORIGINAL QUESTION;
Its not the outside that counts, its the inside. The way people dress should not give them a label to who they can be attracted to. Hmm a theory, the butch lesbians that dress man-like FEEL manlier then the fem lesbians, it is generally accepted for men to like women right? So this should be no odd thing. There isnt just manly lesbians, believe me, we come in all different styles haha.

Remember that the gays you notice most as definetly gay are the effeminate ones, and the lesbians you notice most are the butch ones.

If my girlfriend and I walked past you, you would have no clue that we were a lesbian couple because we both look very feminine or womanly.

Also, there are quite a few feminine straight guys, and manly straight women. You could just be born a butch lesbian, rather than actually wanting to emulate men.

Inasmuch as I am not gay, though I am a strong supporter of gay and lesbian rights in the USA, I shouldn't be answering here, it's true. But nonetheless I'm of a mind to. Young person, certainly you know that gay men and lesbians come in all colors, background, education, tastes, etc., So it is with males who, as you say, 'act like women.' By no means do all men do so. The same is true of women who 'act like men.' I am in a profession where both guys and gals who are gay play major roles in bringing the performing arts to life--they cross the spectrum from super 'butch' to the opposite. A close friend of my wife and mine is not only a happy lesbian but also a top-ranking model and a bright star in this world, with a face and body like a toned-down Marilyn Monroe. It's a habit enjoyed by Christian Fundamentalists and other right-wingers, to lump everyone in one neat pile, but doing so is a pointless dance around the mulberry bush.

not all gay men are feminine and not all lesbians are masculine.

thats just a stereotype

however i understand what you mean. I am a gay male and I am attracted to men. masculine men. when i see feminine gay men i dont like that. why? because if i wanted to be with a woman id be with a women. i like my men to look/act like men.

im not discriminating. to each his own ; ) but thats just how i feel

Gay people act all different ways. When a heterosexual woman is a tomboy, do we question whether she was born heterosexual? When a heterosexual male does not like sports or is not mechanically inclined or likes art and cultural things or likes to cook, do we question whether he was born heterosexual? The way a person acts has nothing to do with their sexual orientation.

Because gays or lesbians do this to attract "straights" which I think is useless. I am gay myself but I know my boundaries. there is NO WAY for a straight to like the same sex just because they look the opposite sex. :)) But I understand and respect them. Besides, whatever I say they are still my comrades :))

Quite frankly, I am a lesbian and I don't understand that behavior either! (Quite frankly, I'm interested in women, not guys....so I prefer women that look and act like women.) I think that they do this in order to "fit in".

i wondered that too! some dykes look like straight up dudes and some look like playboy models. why does it seem that it's more the way you dress and look, than the fact that you ( woman ) love da pu**y.. not to be offensive, just kinda playin off this question with curiosity..
