OK, so the protesters came and went. The Police were heavy-handed. The event cost millions of dollars. John Howard apparently boosted his popularity. George Bush made his (almost predictable) glitches -- thank heavens he did'nt need to say "NUCLEAR".

But was it worth it? So far we have an aspirational agreement on climate change. There will be some inter-country agreements. Personally I think the whole thing is a GROSS waste of time and money - lots of it.

Please could you give me YOUR opinion - some well reasoned argument. Take sides, one way or the other - make your point. Thanks!

K Bear - very good point. But if there is some sort of a "plus" out of this, I guess the marketing exposure that Sydney gets wiil bring more tourists. I still dont believe that its worth it and as someone mentioned below, The Chaser guys will be the BIG winners out of all of this. Max Markson the PR guy recknons that their APEC stunts will earn them millions in America.....funny how bl**dy everything comes down to money!!

I think it was as it puts Australia in the limelight once again.
I do believe the amount of money spent on security was a bit of a joke (considering the Chaser Boys made it through anyways?? Great Security.. NOT)

It was a bit over the top with the barriers and everything around the10-20km radius of the city had to be clearways and tow-away zones??? I don't understand why as I don't think George Bush would have driven through our dingy side streets anyways!

Our city looks like its behind a prison but hey, least George Bush was safe? (he had his 650 entourage .. to help him with the 'OPEC' speech LOL)

Nonetheless, I must agree what a total waste of money and time but I musn't complain totally ... I did, in the end, get a day off work =)

I think the only reason the Aussies had to suffer it was it was so far away from the usual protesters. Their Prime Minister is an idiot . Nothing was achieved... at least nothing we know about

With millions spent on security i don't understand why they don't have this APEC meetings on a remote island somewhere - where there is no public.
they can have their meetings in peace and no disruption to anyone else.

I think it was a very big load on a very honorable nation , and the worse thing that it ended with nothing .
so for sure it wasn't worthy .
