Anti-obsessional medications, known as "selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors" or SSRI's (including such medicines as Anafranil, Prozac, Paxil, Luvox, Zoloft, Celexa and Lexapro) can be very useful in lowering the level of obsessive-compulsive symptoms and relieving depression. They should be prescribed by a physician familiar with OCD, usually a psychiatrist. You do not need to discontinue them while in behavior therapy. In fact, in most cases they can help your progress in behavior therapy! In addition, there is evidence that behavior therapy can improve the prospects of those patients who must for various reasons, stop taking OCD medications.

No definate cure, but it is treatable to extents of maybe 90% depending how bad it is, check out the UK OCD website and a new technique called the four steps, it seems the answer now is in meditation, even CBT has a newer version called mindfulness based cognitive therapy.

Also SSRI's are effective up to 80%, a duel combination of both therapies is advisable.

In many cases no-but if it is part of an infection like lyme disease,or some throat infections, etc, removing that cause should eliminate the problem. Anafranil medication is one of the best ocd drugs by the way.

OCD is treatable, but not curable.

So you can learn to manage the symptoms and keep them under control but it never goes away completely.

I have found CBT therapy helpful. I was referred by my GP.
