My friend who is a little out of it on a daily basis was going to have his much older sister from out of town visit. His house was trashed, he had no clean clothes, he had no soap or toothpaste, no detergent for laundry or dishes, and no clean dishes. He really couldn't let his sister see him like that. I packed him up a big box of men's clothes left over from my ex husband, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, deoderant, detergent, dish liquid, a few books, and a little food. All of the stuff I had a surplus of in my home. He just couldn't get it together, something wrong with him. I felt like he was a little brother. He was glad to get the box.
