In simple terms Yes. But there are so many student/faculty access the internet they won't really bother examining all the traffic unless a somebody like RIAA brings legal action against someone using the school network to trade copyrighted music and such, then traffic of a specific IP maybe examined.

I would say, definitely YES!!
When you connect, you will be issued an IP, and if you were conducting illegal activities over the net for example, the IP would be traced back to the college, and the college can then pinpoint who was issued the IP on the date in question.
if you are using the college internet, you better not be doing anything that will get you expelled, that is for sure. You want to screw up your life because you needed to view porn instead of studying???

Yes. of course, but dont be afraid its just big brother trying to scare you into submission. check out a program called privoxy and its counterpart tor on the eff website. they will help you mask your ip by ...oh nevermind read up on it. Although you should not use these for masking your illegal sharing of files but for surfing is fine. If your using a torrent program switch to Mirc and learn to get the stuff you want without the whole world knowing about it.

Most likely yes. If they have any type of firewall, or logging enabled at the switch, then they can see what you're doing all the way down to your packets, not just what websites you're going to.
Chances are though, no one is actively monitoring it.

In short, YES they can monitor what you do unless you use encrypted connections such as the various VPN solutions (IPSEC and others), SSL, etc.
Regardless, they can see the initial destination of ANY traffic, whether it be your final destination for unencrypted traffic, or the endpoint of a secure connection (VPN, SSL/SSH tunnels).
