As trees naturally engulfs or absorbs CO2 during the timeof photosynthesis to produce carbohydrate in leaves.
So if deforestation occurs, then the number of tree species will decrase, that will result in increase in the amount of CO2.

Deforestation will lead to increase in the level of CO2 in the atmosphere as absorbtion of CO2 by the trees and plants will be reduced.CO2 is one of the gases responsible for "green house effect" as it is a very good absorber of IR radiation. This "green house effect" keeps the air near the surface warmer. With increase in CO2, the green house effect will increase accelerating the global warming process.

In addition to the photosynthesis answers provided above, deforestation is often accompanied by burning the plant matter, which then releases additional CO2 into the atmosphere.

Trees and other plants absorbs CO2 during photosynthesis to make food for itself (carbon) and expells O2 as a waste. The reduction in trees increases the CO2 because there is less absorbtion, which in turn is bad for animals (CO2 is toxic at high levels).

co2 traps the heat from its surroundings , there by increasing the temperature and also the prepiration rate from the upper surface of leaves , making the plant to loose more water
