Which of these massive American cities would you prefer, and why?

You can rank them too, if you like. For instance, my ranking from most to least preferred is:
1. New York. The economic, cultural, and social capital of the free world! I'm not trying to incite any altercations; heck, I'm not even from NYC. But, if you can't find it in NYC, do you really need it? Not to mention, the people are a very unique breed--rude yet sweet, kind yet brutally blunt, helpful yet very rushed.
2. Chicago: I'm sorry, but this city has some of my least favorite (and the meanest) people in the universe. The city still has many great qualities, it's just not any place I would live.
3. Los Angeles: the Pacific coastline is the only thing that impresses me. Hollywood's a dump, downtown is boring, and the smog is horrific.

i agree with your responses!!! I like NYC cultural diversity, I've visited twice and always met someone new from another nation. The homeless people were also hilarious, telling jokes and singing songs to tourists on double-decker buses! It is a little too crowded for my taste, but cant say you'd be bored there!!

Chicago: too fricking hot, but pretty and cool in fall! Pretty skyline!

LA: I live in San Diego, and find LA to be pretty frickin dirty. People think all the stars hang out in hollywood, but most of that main drag is adult shops, and clothing stores for strippers (or hookers)! There are a few nice places to visit (univeral studios, and disneyland and knotts berry farm) are 45 minutes away)...I'd only pick LA over the two previous cities because its near the coast, so it dont get too sweltering hot!

New york #1-- i already live here and i love it! I moved from LA and the air is actually breathable here, they should make it a law to wear gas masks over in LA! Its so much easier to get around and there is just so much to do whereas if you go to LA once or twice you've probably seen all there is to see. And i love the winter in NY. Chicago isn't really my type of town, even if one of my most favorite bands originated there, i like the upbeat vibe of NY that Chicago lacks.

New Yorkers are some of the greatest people in the world. Sure, like any other major metro area Gotham has its' share of wierods and loonies, but the core of its' population are descent human beings who will treat you kindly...as long as you're not a Red Sox fan on the 4 train...Then you're screwed.

los angeles...i'm biased. i've been born and raised here. it's beautiful here pretty much all the time. we don't get a lot of humidity, so our summers aren't as sticky and gross as nyc. we don't have as much culture as nyc, but there's still a lot of history here. and i'd sit in traffic any day over sitting next to weird, creepy people in the subway.

New york will be my first. heard that language here is a variety.
LA's second because this is where my mama lives [my mom's sister] and she's really lonely there with her husband.
Chicago's last coz i don't know anything about this place.
