No. Multiple Modems will kill each other or dedicate dominance to the first one to connect to the ISP. You are really limited to only running one modem off of a broadband ISP, but thats where Routers come in. Whether you want to go Wireless, or run a nice LAN cable, that is you best option to having multiple machines on the internet at once.

Update: A home can only run 1 modem, however they can run several routers, though normally just one router will due. I've been running a business for a long, long time and this is one of the questions I run into most often. Unfortunately, there is just no way to run multiple modems, just multiple Routers...

For DSL, no. Only one modem per line. For cable, is possible but your cable company will charge you extra. Not sure why you don't just install a switch or Hub but I will assume you have a good reason, so you could install 2 wireless Hubs and put them in Bridge mode, this will allow you to have a hardwired Lan connection in a different room without having to run a long patch cable between rooms.

You need one phone line for each modem. You can't have two or more modems sharing the same phone line.

At one point, I was working for a Regional Bell company and had 3 phone lines coming into our house (with one pair from the street still unused). Not a big deal. I used one phone line for voice, the other 2 for data. This was pre-DSL.

One modem only, one connection to the outside. Use a router to connect to the modem, and then other routers, switches, or wireless combinations to build an internal network.

You can only use one modem for your internet connection. However, you can connect a router to your modem, which would allow you to have more devices/computers online. You can either use a wireless or a non-wireless router. Non-wireless routers are cheaper but a wireless one would be a much less hassle.

You don't mention which type of connection you use. If you use DSL or cable, you can connect a DSL or cable modem in each room in which you have a phone/cable outlet. If you use dial-up, only one computer can use the phone line at a time to dial in to your internet service provider.
