This is going to sound gross, but please be mature about this. These past two days my muscles are sore from exercising (because the previous two days I began working out at the gym). Needless to say, I've been drinking more water, less soda, in fact i haven't drank anything else besides water these past four or so days.

What's scaring me is not that I'm sore, but my urine has been dark, like a brownish color when I went to the bathroom earlier this morning today. When I got home from going out and went again, my urine was still dark. Its scaring the living crap out of me. My friend told me my body was detoxing, but I'm scared it could be a health problem, especially since now I'm more thirsty and less hungry and I'm drinking a LOT more water.

Please help?

You may want to see a doctor.

If your urine is dark like that and it's associated with working out, you may have pushed your body beyond what it was capable of and your muscles are breaking down. The extra protein and such that are in your urine can cause your kidneys to overload and shut down on you!

The only other option is that you have a urinary tract infection and that you have blood in your urine, however, because you have linked it to exercise, I'm more inclined to believe that it is Rhabdomyolysis.

If that is the case you best see a doctor now!

P.s. The Loss of protein in your blood makes it harder for your body to absorb fluids, hence you may experience swelling in places. You may also be dehydrated, which, if you work out in that condition, can lead to Rhabdomyolysis as well.

I would be better able to help you if I knew whether you have any other conditions that you take medication for. However, your freind could very well be correct that your body is just detoxing. However, very dark- brown or amber- urine and excessive thirst are signs of both pancreatic , liver , and muscular problems. I suggest you call your doctor's office for an appointment right away, as brown urine when you are drinking plenty of fluid is not a good sign. I don't mean to scare you; if you are otherwise healthy, there probably is no reason for alarm. But in this case, you should be examined within 72 hours, if at all possible, to rule out any serious illness. Exercise and soreness are NOT causes for dark urine, but breakdown of muscle tissues can be, and if the liver can't process the compounds, there you go. I urge you to contact a healthcare provider, ASAP.

Urine that is discolored like that should be evaluated by a doctor, and soon. You said that you are working out more, and drinking water. Are you drinking enough water to replenish what you lose during your workouts? A lot of people think they do when in reality they arent.
Sometimes, dark brownish urine can be a sign of muscle or liver problems. I would suggest you get it checked, and soon!! Good luck

Brown urine could be from red blood cells in your urine. High bilirubin from you liver can also cause dark or brown urine. Please go to the doctor, as you could be have symptoms of urinary tract infection, but it sounds more like liver related/hepatitis possibly. You should go to the mirror and hold a piece of white paper up by your face and see if you are jaundiced or look at the whites of your eyes with the paper beside your face to see if you see yellow. Your tongue can also appear orangish in color. The dehydration could be signs of diabetes. It would be a very good idea to go to the doctor to get a checkup.

go see a doctor. my son had the same symptoms, he ended up in the hospital for severe dehydration and a kidney condition called rhabdomyolosis. this is caused by excessive exercising and not enough fluids, this condition causes your muscles to break down causing sore muscles, and dark urine. he was in the hospital on ivs for 2 days. and he drank lots of water during his basketball camp! his urine looked like coke, it was that dark. either way thats your kidneys not detoxing.

My thought is that you have myoglobinuria from a breakdown of muscle cells due to excessive exercise. If so, you would have few or no red blood cells in your urine yet it would test positive for blood and your blood CPK level would be eleveted. Damage to the kidneys is a possibility.

March hemoglobinuria presents similarly, and is thought to be a result of trauma to the blood vessels of the feet from excessive pounding.

A rare possibility would be McArdles disease, a glycogen storage disease where muscle breakdown occurs with moderate exercise and gives rise to myoglobin in the urine.

Collect a urine sample in a clean bottle, put it in a refrigertor, and take it with you when you see your physician. If dark urine continues over the weekend, call your physician to see if he or she recommends a trip to the ER or urgent care center.

Dark Urine is a sympton of a urinary tract infection...you may need to do a urinalysis at your doctors office asap! It can be dark, at times may burn, have an odor, urinate quite often...see a doctor if this is the case.

It says darkened urine could be a result of dehydration, which could explain why you're so much more thirsty because you need a lot of water to quench your thirst.
