I am 5 months along and have the WORST time sleeping at night. I have tried everything. I've read hundreds of Q's and A's on here about it and tried everything I've read. Taken warm baths and showers, warm milk, relaxing tea, a tylenol PM, I already use a ton of pillows for the comfort portion of everything. I get comfy enough to sleep but I just lay there wide eyed. My whole body just feels exhausted like I want to fall over and sleep for AGES. And then once I finally DO fall asleep I wake up just about every hour. It's getting really frustrating. Aside from the things I've already tried does anyone out there have any other suggestions. At this point I'm willing to give anything a shot as long as its healthy for me and my baby. Thanks!

I had insomnia before I got pregnant, but in my first trimester I was SO tired, it was the first time in my life that I could sleep, and it was great! Then toward the middle of my second trimester it started to fade away. I did the same things as you, all the things they tell you to do, sometimes with success, and sometimes without. There's no other way to put it: it sucks! And it sucks that it only gets worse, in my third trimester my big belly, my aches and pains (feet, back, calves), my heartburn, and the fact that I have to pee 3 times a night really doesn't help me at all! My doctor never cared that I couldn't sleep until I was into my third trimester, now she takes a little pity on me because it's so common for women to not sleep well then. She prescribes me Visteral, which honestly doesn't help much, but it does a little. She said Ambien is okay to take sometimes, and I could have that if I wanted, but theres always risks involved. But she said taking Xtra Strength Tylonal (sp?) PM was okay, but for some reason it gives me restless legs syndrome which makes it IMPOSSIBLE to sleep. But she's never heard of it doing that to anyone else. So my suggestion to you would be to get up early every day, even if you didn't get any sleep, get a little excersise, cut out the caffeine, and take the normal dosage of tylanol pm, or Unisom, then get comfy, and read a book, and close your eyes and try to sleep.
Sweet dreams! I hope it gets better for you! There is an end in sight! :)

I know how you feel. I was told when I was having trouble sleeping it was my body preparing for the babies arrival. And then once I had my child I noticed the sleep patterns with him that I had when I was pregnant. The only thing I can think of since you said you've tried everything is maybe going on a walk and try to take some naps through out the day if you can. Good luck.

This is your body's natural way of preparing you for a newborns sleeping patterns. Though at 5 months it is kind of early to be this restless, because it gets a lot worse from here. Its one of those things that all mothers go through, and doesn't have a cure (like morning sickness). Have you ruled out things such as stress?? I wasn't so much stressed with my son, as I more had the nesting urge. I kept thinking about what I needed to do, and what I had done. I don't know if you have talked to your doctor yet, but most doctors say it is ok to use Unisom which is an OTC sleeping medicine. Good luck!

Oh jeez... TELL ME ABOUT IT. My daughter is now 9 months old, but I don't think I've slept in maybe a year or more. I stopped sleeping through the night myself half way through my pregnancy because I had to pee and I couldn't get comfortable and my back hurt! Now at 9 months postpartum, my daughter still doesn't sleep through the night. I'm pretty beat most of the time LOL! Naps help!!!

try a recliner. Im almost nine months now, and sleep is near impossible in a flat position, unless I want to wake up every 30 min. Get a recliner that rocks, so you can use it after the baby comes.

I am not sure about the medical issues with having a weak cervix, however it is normal for a pregnant women to bleed after a vaginal exam or intercourse. If you are worried go back to the doctor. Thats why you pay them. Good luck!!!
