6n = 5n - 3/4
n = -3/4

2n - 8 = n - 1/4
n = 8 - 1/4 = 31/4

For the first..

First off, 2*n*3=2*3*n=6n, so we change
2n(3)=5n-3/4
to
6n=5n-3/4
Now, we subtract 5n from both sides:
6n-5n=5n-3/4-5n
n=-3/4

Actually, that's it. N=3/4 or .75

The second:

We distribute the two on the right:
2(n)-2(4)=n-1/4
2(n)=2n and 2(4)=8, so
2n-8=n-1/4
Subtract n from both sides:
2n-8-n=n-1/4-n
Can be rewritten as..
2n-n-8=n-n-1/4
Which reduces to:
n-8=-1/4
Add 8 to both sides:
n-8+8=-1/4+8
Calculate that 8-1/4=32/4-1/4=(32-1)/4=31/4
An other way to do this is convert -1/4 to -.25, in which case 8-.25=7.75
n=7.75

2n(3)=5n-3/4
6n=5n-3/4
6n-5n=-3/4
n=-3/4

2(n-4)=n-1/4
2n-8=n-1/4
2n-n=-1/4+8
n=31/8
