You should look for "Oh! Susannah" by The Singing Dogs. Seriously, it was a group of dogs that had been trained to bark out melodies on cue. The recording came out in 1955 but I'm not sure where you can find a copy.

It varies, but here's one version. Don't sing the last verse or you'll make your dog sad:
I come from Alabama with a banjo on my knee
I'm going to Louisiana my true love for to see
It rained all night the day I left the weather it was dry
Sun so hot I froze to death Suzanna don't you cry
Oh, Suzanna don't you cry for me
I come from Alabama with a banjo on my knee
I had a dream the other night when everything was still
I dreamt I saw Suzanna way up on the hill
Buckwheat cakes was in her mouth, the tears was in her eyes
Said I'm a comin from the south Suzanna don't you cry
I'm headed down to New Orleans and there I'll look around
And if I do not find Suzanna I'll fall upon the ground
And if I do not find her then I'll surely die
And when I'm dead and buried, Suzanna don't you cry

Oh Susannah, Oh don't you cry for me
For i come from Alabama with a banjo on my knee
That's all i know. Make up the rest using your dog's name and they will love it.

I come from Alabama with my banjo on my knee;
I'm goin' to Lou'siana my true love for to see.
It rained all night the day I left,
the weather it was dry;
The sun so hot I froze to death,
Susanna don't you cry.
Oh! Susanna, don't you cry for me;
I come from Alabama,
with my banjo on my knee.
I had a dream the other night,
When everything was still;
I thought I saw Susanna dear,
A-coming down the hill.
The buckwheat cake was in her mouth,
The tear was in her eye,
Said I, I'm coming from the south,
Susanna don't you cry.
Oh! Susanna, don't you cry for me;
I come from Alabama,
with my banjo on my knee.
I soon will be in New Orleans,
And then I'll look all 'round,
And when I find Susanna,
I'll fall upon the ground.
But if I do not find her,
This darkey'll surely die,
And when I'm dead and buried,
Susanna don't you cry.
Oh! Susanna, don't you cry for me;
I come from Alabama,
with my banjo on my knee.
The website has a melody that you can sing to... have fun with your doggie (I sing to my cat all the time, so I understand :)
