Simply put...not even nearly the same for a lot of different reasons. First of all Favre IS the face of the franchise, Neidermeyer is a very good peice of the puzzle for the Ducks but nothing more. Favre has a certain loyalty to the GB franchise and in particular their fans, Neidermeyer is the new guy in town and not even as revered as his own defence partner (Pronger). Favre is a 37 year old with health and skill questions...many are asking if he is getting too old and question whether or not the packers need to move on (I sure wouldnt want to be the poor QB that follows him....he could throw for 5000 yards and win the Super Bowl and the fans will still complain about how bad he is). Neidermeyer just turned 34 a week ago...there are absolutely zero questions about declining skills with him...the only debate he faces is whether or not to go out on top. He is a family man who has won all there is to win in hockey and hockey isnt the ONLY thing in his life so he has the right to debate whether or not to hang up the skates. And finally this is the FIRST time we are hearing the debate from Neidermeyer, this is like the 6th or 7th season of hearing Favre contemplate retirement (plus nobody is making a big deal of Selanne talking of retirement...for the first time, on the same team...but he is the same age as Favre). So to answer your question.....It is nowhere near the same...if fact is is a night and day comparision!

Guess I'll answer both....with the same answer.

Favre has a 10 million candlepower spotlight compared to Neidermeyer's wet match.

I think the decision to retire is harder than most people think, especially when you love the game as much as these two you have mentioned, AND have a family they don't see as much as they want too. It would be a tough call for me too.

Go Pack Go!!!!!

No, not even close. They are both old, and they were at one time one of the best at their position, but Neiders still has a lot left in the tank imo. I hope he does well this season.

Best hockey to football analogy I've ever heard!

I couldn't agree more.
