The McRib was a pork patty pressed to look like it has bones in it. After cooking on the grill its stored in a big container of that tangy sauce. When assembled it gets pickles and onions on a weird looking bun.
We had it in my area in late '06

About as real as any other McDonald's meat is.
I think it is rib meat taken off the bones, mixed with filler, and then formed into a rib-like shape and covered in bbq sauce.

As far as I knew it was real meat. The scary part was that since they didn't sell really big (at least at the store I worked at) that occasionally ones that were cooked at 11 am were often sold at 6 or 7 pm. They spent the whole day in the sauce. But that was over 20 years ago....

I haven't seen a "McRib" at a McDonald's in at least a decade. But I am pretty sure it was real meat.

No, they are made of boneless pork arranged to look like a rib.
They were introduced to the McDonalds menu in 1981.
