It's easy sex for him, and you are too young to realize you are being played.

Evolutionary studies have shown that men who are divorced tend to date someone much younger even, half thier age!
Females reproductive system cease, males dont. They are more likely to reproduce, and have healthier offspring with a younger women- and a stabler life style!!
Personally i dont think age matters and those who have judgements need to get over them- People are attracted to a certain person for a number of reasons that the next person doesnt understand! thats life-
And seriously what man who is still in his prime wouldnt want a young, beautiful women who has loads of potential- These days the average 23 yr old women is an independant strong, working women often with a great career who maybe studying & has the potential to have a very rich fruitful life, where as the average 36 yr old women may have been raised in a stay at home mum environment and have a totally different value system, and totally different values- meaning he has to support her as well!
And suggesting it is because the 36 yr old feels he needs something young and dumb, That is f#@n ridiculous-
Some young women are dumb are they??????
young women today have alot more opportunities of schooling, uni, variety of jobs and have had alot more experience by age 23 then women ten years ago did.

When I moved into the city for grad school, I met only younger women at school and at work, and so I went out with them. It was a matter of availability and convenience. I wasn't looking for another marriage, and that may have had something to do with it, too. After a while, I found them boring. A big difference in life-experience can be hard to bridge.
___What the poster mentioned above about women getting bitter as they get older is true in many cases. And some of the never-married ones seem to get quirky beyond belief. His age bracket especially is a time when a lot of women seem to get grandiose ideas about their own worth and entitlements, and maybe he's waiting out this awkward phase. Some single thirty-somethings get too serious too fast. From a man's perspective, there are plenty of reasons to go out with younger women, for a little while, at least.
___Maybe, unconsciously, your friend is killing time until he's ready to get serious again.
___On the other hand, he could be honestly drawn to you just because he hasn't met anyone else with your personality traits, at any age. If he's a decent, honest guy, then why get upset about the age difference? Or is he always "on", always trying too hard to make himself seem exciting, sexy, and romantic, without relaxing enough to be himself? Then there's cause for worry.
___Don't judge him against stereotypes. Just consider what kind of person he is.

Age is just a number, it depend on how you take care of yourself. A 23 year old may look 36 and a 36 years old may look 23...

Age does not correlate to intelligence.
Age does correlate to maturity although there is divergence as in a Bell curve.
If the guy is 36 and is dating a woman than much younger, there are a plethora of possible factors why.
1) Women his age tend to be more bitter. Why? Because they've dated or divorced men close to their age to make them that way.
2) He (typically) has more financial resources than the competing males in her age bracket and therefore can out compete them in one area of appeal. Problem is the types of women this can attract versus a woman attracted to less tangible qualities.
3) Mid-Life crisis. Dating a younger woman can be an attempt to recapture one's youth before the slow grind to 45 - 50 when it is much less likely to do so.
4) Didn't date enough when younger, and he is perhaps trying to make up for working or studying harder while younger until he got to a point where he could date a woman. A possible explanation in this instance could be that his dating/socialization skills may be severely impaired for his age group and a woman in her early to mid twenties can be less threatening than a more experienced woman in her 30s. Another possibility is that he wants to see what he passed up for course work or promotions (workoholism).

Gees you make a 23 yr old sound like such an imature child. Whay you are speaking of is nothing really. We arent talking about a 17-18 yr old going out with a 30 yr old.
It could be because 23 yr olds can be quite sexy or for that matter a 36 yr old woman could be.
It could be that he finds 36 yr old woman are usually stuck up the own A' ssss
Your question seems almost irrelivent with the age factor. Maybe you are just too imature.

Are you aware that this question has too many factors to consider in order to get an accurate answer from anyone. There are even more factors that you can't even tell us about.
I think you have your own answer. Follow your instincts and do what is best for you. This may take a bit of soul searching, but I do believe you know what is correct for you.
Peace

questioning love is kind of worthless -- why don't you stop trying to second guess him and just ask him. i look really young -- like seriously about 10 yrs too young and can't get a date with anyone close to my age because everyone is busy judging everyone else. so i get young dates and then i feel like i am being a father or something if i think about it too much.
really if you think he is immature than you are better off breaking up but if you like him then why not hang around and see where it goes.
nothing is perfect in the world. nobody said you had to marry him. just have fun.

3. Maybe he simply likes you... or maybe he's attracted to younger women.
I would try to not be so critical of him, and look inward... Why would a 23 year old be dating a 36 year old? Remember that you're an adult, and not a child anymore... you're responsible for your actions, as much as anyone else.
Good Luck and I hope you find what you're looking for.

3) He's interested in a woman who just happens to be younger than him.
13 years isn't a really huge age difference anyway.
