"Going potty" is very possible during labor. There's a lot of pressure being applied to that area, and your rectum is not spared! When I was pregnant, someone brought this issue to me because they were scared of being embarassed. But trust me, gal, when the time comes, the absolute LAST thing you're going to worry about is whether or not you're poopin' or peein'! Your main concern will be delivering a healthy baby, and ending that 9-month-long physical "prison"! :) Furthermore, there is nothing an experienced labor & delivery "team" (docs and nurses) hasn't seen. From poop and pee and blood to any other interesting product the body can produce, they're used to it, and know full well what to do with it. They won't judge you, and won't laugh at you later!
Please don't do anything crazy just to prevent pooping during your labor. EAT to nourish your baby and yourself. Drink plenty of water, take your vitamins. Do these every day...and just be ready to cooperate with your doctor, coach, and the rest of your team so that your labor & delivery are a succes. Accept this as a mere possibility that comes with no embarassment or judgment.
I wish you a happy labor!!

I never have..but it is possible..
If you want to give your self an enema during labor you can try and prevent it (I don't recommend it) you wouldn't even know if you did unless your husband or support person told you about it.
The doctor and nurse would have it cleaned up before you could know and they would not mention it at all, it just happens it is part of there job to deal with it.
Relax it is not a big deal

You can. All that pushing sometimes pushes that out too. First of all the staff are SO USED TO THIS. It happens all the time and if it happens to you they'll probably clean it up so fast you won't even know it happened. To prevent it (or lessen your chances) try to use the bathroom before you go to the hospital. Alot of times you will have loose bowels in early labor...your body's way of cleaning itself out. You could also do an enema but I would speak to your doctor before doing that.

I didn't with my second. You body has this natural flushing system that sort of "cleans out your intestines" right before delivery. In other words you "poop" alot about the week before. And when the baby comes out or is coming out of the birth canal it really closes off the rectum tunnel so poop can't really get out, its not like theres alot of room kwim?
however, with my first...i did all over the table. So you win sometimes and other times you're really embarrassed. But i didn't even notice it, i had no clue i did, and told my dh that i was relieved i didn't and he assured me, that infact i had. Talk about embarrassing, and here i am telling the yahoo world i did. too funny.

I did when I had my daughter, but the dr's dont care. They just clean it up and keep moving. They arent worried about poop. They are more concerned for you and the child. When you are drugged you cant really feel it anyways.

I have had four and I never did. Your body normally had a mild diarrhea early in labor which helps prevent that.

you can't do anything to prevent it but it doesn't always happen either. You will feel like you have to poop though because that is what the pressure feels like when you get fully dialated and ready to push.

"TMI" but I tried not eating for the whole day before giving birth nope there's no way to prevent. Because your pushing so hard that everything baby and all comes out. Also if you have the epidural it relaxes your muscles so you won't know when you go. Once the pain hits you you won't care anyway.
