There's so many movies out there...
There are some fabulous classics, like Gone With the Wind, Dr. Zhivago, Citizen Kane, Lawrence of Arabia (which I'd highly recommend). Mind you, these are mostly fairly old movies.
If you like the 60's and horror works, Hitchcock works fabulously. I consider his movies timeless. Rear Window is fabulous, Psycho is scary, Vertigo's really stunning, and there's a ton of other ones.
Some other ones are Rebel Without a Cause, The Searchers, Double Indemnity...actually, all of these would probably be considered old, as in more than (at least) like 20 years.
Some good modern ones, if you haven't seen them (these are probably fairly recent): The Departed, Lost in Translation, The Graduate (it's like one of the most famous films ever, but it's from like the 60's), Cast Away, Catch Me If You Can (one of my favourites), the Bourne series, and A Beautiful Mind.
