hey they are 2 time national champs in the division previously known as the division 1-AA, they showed last week that they can hang with the big boys by taking down one of the biggest of the big boys in a hostile environment of a 100,000 people, I personally think that the Big East could benefit greatly from them joining. Last but not least if you think that Michigan game was a fluke just check App St's credentials, I'm not saying that they would definently defeat Michigan if they were to play again at the end of season, but it was no fluke they just played a better game. I don't think there is anywhere else to go for this team but up.

oh yes I realize that if they were to join the Big East then there would be 2 teams in the same conference called the Mountaineers; however there are 2 teams in the SEC called the Tigers (LSU and Auburn)

In order to be considered for the Bowl Division, the school has to meet several criteria
a) number of students
b) size of stadium

I can't find the exact number, but I believe that Appalachian State falls short of these numbers

If they moved up, most likely they would go Sun Belt and not Big East. If the Big East wouldn't take a school like East Carolina, they're certainly not going to take Appalachian State.

Division I-A already has too many former I-AA teams in it that thought they could be successful at the higher level. To my knowledge, Appalachian State has no plans to move up, and by no means are they an absolute lock to win the I-AA championship (no team has ever three-peated at that level).

I think they could get top 25, not so sure on bowl status. They still have to prove that it was not just a fluke. Yes they are a good team, but playing 1 game against 1 1A team isn't going to win it all for them. If it is so hard for smaller conferences to get decent rankings, think how hard it will be for a smaller school to get those ranking votes.

no. they got lucky against michigan blocking 2 kicks. how often does that happen? michigan would beat APstate 99 times out of a 100. last week just happened to be the 1 time they would lose.
