I know domestic violence is common, I guess I just didn't realize *how* common it was amongst kids. That's incredibly sad.

A lot more common than you can even imagine. I have dealt with many cases in my life time.
just as an aside, for midgets knowledge...that too is far more common than you think. The problem there is very few men will admit they have been/ are being abused, so they do not report the abuse.

Very common. It doesn't just start when people are no longer teens anymore.
Yes, I do know people that this has happened to.
You can think of it another way too. When somebody rapes somebody (which teens do too) it is also a form of physical abuse. I think people categorize things too much sometimes.

Abuse of women by men is more common than you realize. And it's not just physical abuse. It's mental and sexual abuse as well. It can start at any time. Here's the main thing. If someone abuses you in any manner ONE TIME, no matter how old you are, it's time to get out and never look back. My first husband abused me emotionally for our entire marriage and it took 17 years for me to get out! The longer you stay the harder it is to leave.

Yes, It's sad when they know a guy is abusive and marry him and then they are trapped in a life of misery and sometimes death.
