I just went to see "The Nanny Diaries" with my daughter. I had read the book, but forgot how pitiful the wealthy people are in the book.

I wasn't, but I've worked as a nanny for the same family for the past 8 years (since both children were babies). I must say that my experience and those of other nannies I know has been NOTHING like in the book or like you see on t.v.

I'm sure there are some families who treat their children and nannies like that, but there's a major difference between those who have full time nannies and don't work (or spend time with the kids), and those parents who hire a nanny to provide the best care for there kids (instead of daycare) while they work. The family I work for (like many) are both professionals, and therefore work a lot, however they spend all of there time outside of work with the kids.

I wasn't, but my friend Dave and his sister were raised by "the help." A series of housekeepers who were there just because they were paid. I agree it's pitiful. So much so, that Dave, having been raised without love, rejected his family and ran away at seventeen. He's a cop now, and a hands-on father - minus the inheritance, but surrounded by love. I'm proud of him.
