Robert,
I took the time to read your profile and see that you indicate you are a well travelled, intelligent person who has a sense of humour, so hazard a guess that this question is a wind up to fish some amusement out of the more challenged members on this forum, I look forward to following up and reading some of the ludicrous posts that will not doubt arrive soon
Nice one!
:-)

Robert,
Can you think of a nation that gave another its independence just because one skinny ole guy was starving himself on a hunger strike!
It was England that did it!
Similarly if you look throughout history you will see that though the English were colonizing, they generally were not ruthless. In effect they actually imparted good things to the places that they colonized. But soon they realized that colonization was not a good thing and free trade was better.
In modern days the friendly atmosphere in any area of the globe is an endangered thing. Many things affect the atmosphere including the number of people within the parties involved.
Modern day Britt's will tend to mind their own business but when approached are most civil and in some circumstances down right friendly. I was lost and asked directions, once we got to talking or chatting, they found out that I had been wondering about for some time. They invited me to their flat and actually fed me!
We became fast friends and still keep in touch.
Do give it a second chance and create and atmosphere of friendliness. They may not be as huggy as some other culture but they are friendly and caring.

Perhaps you have had a bit of culture shock. What is common among Brits may not be common in your culture, and vice versa. People are as different as they are similar. Not everyone needs to go on the hug campain, joking or not. Brits may seem cold to one observer, and the friendliest people on earth to another. I don't know if I can change your mind, but perhaps open yourself up to different points of view.

i think of it could be heartless. I advise 8 months is a protracted time, maximum anybody is in love by then. he's possibly in love with you and can actual would not appriciate calling him and telling him you pick for to break up. If i substitute into you i might wait till ultimately you spot him returned. that's the main respectful difficulty you're able to do.

English people historically are known for being stifled/civil or mannered, overt expression of emotion or passion is not something we associate with the english, perhaps its something to do with the climate. In reality though its only the upper/middle classes that still carry those traits the lower classes that make up the majority have always been a lively bunch.
civility anywhere is coldness.

Look at all the books and music that came from there. The Beatles gave us I want to holed your hand and she loves you Elton John gave some for the best stuff Harry potter they may feel cold on the out side but look at what they gave us from the in side. Remember it can get cold in New York city too.
