I am going to be doing a research paper on a pregenant woman who is a heavy user of Meth, how this drug effects her babys personality and development just because his or her Mom used Meth. My teacher wants us to be specific, so how much does a person need to be doing daily to be considered a "heavy user" and any other information would be really helpful.
Thanks

Fact Sheet
Man has used mind-altering drugs in his search to dispel sorrow and achieve `lasting joy’. Mind altering drugs are derived from both natural and synthetic sources. Plant sources include opium, marijuana, hashish, cocaine and alcohol. Alcohol use and its dependency are 100 times greater than dependency on illegal drugs. The negative effects of drug use are a source of great concern worldwide. Negative effects include personal dysfunction, crime, accidents, ill health, and AIDS. A worrisome trend in recent years is the earlier first drug use and the growing proportion of female drug users.

Some short term effects of alcohol abuse: in-coordination, staggering, slurred speech, blurred vision (effects on psychomotor functions), lowered inhibitions (do things one would normally not do), poor judgment, nausea and vomiting.

Some long term effects of alcohol abuse: degeneration of the brain, cirrhosis of the liver, sexual impotence, stomach ulcers and dependency

Effects on unborn child: mental retardation, poor co-ordination, hyperactivity, increase in congenital defects of the eyes, ears and mouth.

I'm sorry but these answers are pretty funny how can a baby be born deformed, not born at all, retarded or all three of the above? The one above me forgot she was writing about meth at all.

Anyone who uses any drugs or alcohol should know that the effects it would have on the baby are very serious and I consider anyone who can not stop for the sake of the baby is a heavy user. I have seen people who use everyday and still hold a job and raise a family without problems. They might not have a lot of money but unless you become so deep into it that you can not hold a job, not take care of yourself, can't keep friends then you are not considered a heavy user. I think a more detailed example list of what you are looking for would help yourself to getting better answers.

A heavy meth user is someone who uses at all especially during pregnancy. Meth really isn't one of those recreational drugs, in my experience your either on it or not. I lost my unborn son to meth. Also keep in mind many states have harsh penalties for the parents of a baby with drug related birth defects, I know here in texas had the thing with my child happened 3 months later me and the mother would have both been up for murder charges.

Someone that uses every day, not just once or twice a day but EVERY DAY!! First off all it would badly deform the baby in some way or another, or not be born at all or be mentally retarded or all of thee above!! Its a person the can not live with out it a person that has to have it or buys the meth. instead of buying food, thats how bad that person is on the meth or any other bad drug!! or that has needle tracks up and down their arm is another sign!!

Meth during pregnancy! I would consider ANY use heavy use because it can have a HEAVY impact on the developing child, not to mention the havoc it brings to the mother's health.
