Since you said you're afraid your food may spoil if this goes on, I can only assume that your freezer still gets cold, but water leaks out and collects in your ice-maker.
3 years ago, we owned a 15-year old 21-inch Amana top-freezer refrigerator, but it did have a design problem such that during the defrost cycle, the pipe through which the melted water (from the defrost cycle) froze in the pipe and causes water to back up and flood into top of the refrigerator lining, then into the refrigerator around the pipe. The Amana repairman diagnosed the problem and improvised a fixed for us. Although the fix wasn't fool-proof 100% of the time, it let us keep the refrigerator for 7-8 more years.
If your freezer is still cold enough, you may ask your Amana serviceman to check for this.

My sister had the same problem, and come to find out, her temperature setting was too low. When her freezer would defrost every couple of hours, because her temperature was too low, all of her food kept defrosting completely.
The buzzing you are hearing might be your defroster working and perhaps your temperature was set too low. Give that new temperature setting a try and see if it fixes the problem.
If it doesn't fix the problem, I'd give a repairman a call asap. That's the best I can come up with, but good luck nevertheless!

I'd be looking to see if the fan is moving air over the coils and dust build up on the coils. People who smoke stand a greater chance of the accumulation of lint & dust building up on the fan blades and coils slowing and in some cases even stopping the fan and not allowing heat to escape from the coils.

Hmmm, that sounds like a major malfunction. Call the repair man or see if there is still warranty on it. I'd be scared the stupid thing would short out and catch fire.

if the buzz you hear is or short duration, say 2 seconds, then it sounds like your compressor is locked up. what you hear is the overload disc.
ths is not worth repairing, time for a new one.
