I have a gut feeling that the current highway system will be archaic.

If someone in 1907 were to predict what our transportation system would look like in 2007 they'd probably get it very wrong.

With that out of the way I'd say that we'll have sub-orbital spacecraft for intercontinental transport (London - Sydney in 90 minutes) along with space travel (and probably some interplanetary travel as well).

Public transport between cities will probably be by way of Maglev train with some services done by vactrain. Short range air travel will probably not be used very much.

Private transport could very well be groundcars like what we have now though in 100 years I'd expect them to be computer driven which should make things a lot safer, the proposed transglobal highway might also have been built (though it actually wouldn't take much to build it today, surprisingly enough). I'd also expect us to have solved the CO2 problem from cars so our cars will be hydrogen, synthetic hydrocarbon or battery powered.

If anything does end up causing us to give up our cars it'll be Personal Rapid Transit which looks like it could provide the advantages of cars that other public transport systems can't.

Probably we will be getting beamed up like Scotty in Startrek, or walking through a gate into where ever you want to go like in Stargate.
