We have a mouse problem. Have had since about May. Every time I think we have the last of the little buggars, I find more droppings. I'm almost tempted to call in the pros, but here's my delima... I have two dogs that we feed in the kitchen. We put there food in the garage at night, but I'm afraid that a pro is just going to tell me I'm fighting a losing battle. What do you guys think... is there any hope?

As long as you leave food out, you'll have mice. No way around that one.

Feed your dogs on a schedule, thats what I do. I put their food down at noon and pick up their bowls at 4:00. Their food is stored in a new garbage can with a lid.

Mice probably established their home in your home long before you came along. Our house vacant 9 months and professionally bombed - we moved in and the rodent, bug problems all resurfaced. Hey, Mr. Clean and a wiley cat live here. Hope = Persistence. Using bug bombs from attic to under house/basement to drive them out. Spreading sulphur dust around the perimiters of all buildings to keep them out. Do this on a regular basis. Sealing all cracks & crevices. Clearing your entire property of any possible breeding opportunities. Putting out lots of old fashioned mouse traps. Remember to check on them - smelly nightmare when you forget. Walls are now quiet and no droppings. Cat is so bored.

I have used a "self feeder" with great success. It has a door on top to fill a hopper and a swinging door the dogs quickly lean to push open when they want to eat. If they are fairly large dogs so you can get a large feeder it is too heavy for the mice to open.

I have also used d-con for many years and have never had any problems with dogs or cats being affected by it. You might consider that, too.
