A little bird told me the Ducks were going to suspend him for not reporting to camp. That seems very strange. I cannot confirm this, has anyone else heard this rumour?
Seems weird that Burke says that he can take his time but now I hear this. Cap roundabout, I don't know?
Maybe it was a false report. Anyone?
Also, Pahlsson has surgery and will probably not be ready for the start of the season.

It's not a rumour, very much a fact that Brian Burke mentioned on The Score yesterday morning in a television interview prior to the Niedermayer press conference.
Basically there are two options
1) Niedermayer can sign his voluntary retirement papers, and if he does' he cannot return to the NHL for 12 months without approval from other clubs, and Burke already knows that there are clubs in their own division that will not grant approval
2) The second option is that on October 1st, the Ducks can suspend him as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, at that point, his salary no longer counts against the Cap. If he decided to return, his salary would count against the cap on a pro-rated basis.
One got the impression from listening to Burke that he was pushing towards option 2.

I think there's some funny stuff going on there. A have your cake and eat it too thing. Ducks need to find a way to get him off the cap sheet and still keep the right to him later when he decides to play the last part of the year.

According to this article, the fine does have salary cap implications, and there are NHL rules that state a player MUST be fined for missing training camp.
He says he's causing a distraction to the team, and says he can't make a decision. As much as I'd hate to see him leave, if he doesn't have the desire to get back in to camp...its time to hang it up.

I heard that rumor but missed the press conference too. Good pick up Like.
Mike, Paul Holmgren played golf with Forsberg some time last week. They had Holmgren on WIP in Philly this week. He shrugged off any questions about any conversations they had but it started the rumor mill up again here anyway.

There are a couple of ducks that make me question their devotion to the game. If I had a good shot at winning the cup in 2007-08 I sure as hell wouldn't quit! Morons.

"A little bird"??? OMG, you really are Eklund!!! Only he gets info like that from shady sources!!! Oh great Eklund, I praise thee (or is it thy?)!!! Tell me o great one, did your "bird" happen to say if Forsberg will return to the Avs next season? I really need to know!
OK, all fun & games aside, I really think that can't be true. There's no way you suspend a guy like Niedermayer for missing training camp because he's thinking about retirement. ESPECIALLY after Burke told him to take all the time he needed! I seriously don't believe that story, if it's true, then Burke is making the absolute wrong move by suspending him.

if he's suspended, do they still have to count his salary under the cap? That would be my guess, especially if they're still trying to get Selanne back.
