Startup message, freezing and curtains?

When I start XP a messagebox says The requested control is not valid for this service, also if the screen dosent freeze it can look like colored curtains blocking everything. If I survive about 5mins all will continue as normal. Any ideas (no virus known)??

It sounds like something that starts up when you boot up is struggling.

I recommend you download Mike Lin's Startup Conrol Panel, it's free and easy to use.

I recommend you uncheck everything except your antivirus software.
