I think it's a good age to let girls begin experimenting with a few things. I do think they should be limited to lighter shades that coincide well with their skin tone, but lip glosses (especially the tinted ones) and a little bit of eye shadow is okay in some situations. The rest -- coverup, bronzer, mascara, eye liner, et cetera -- should be held off on for another two years, though.

I don't think it is any harm in learning about it and maybe even applying very small amounts. For example I don't think that early on in age that a powder or foundation would need to be introduced as the skin is still naturally clear of any blemishes or defects. Maybe start out small at this age with clear lip glosses or natural shades for eyes and lips. At most I would say mascara but even that seems like it may be too advanced. You want to keep things tasteful and truthful to their own age. I think it is great that young girls do learn how to use and apply make up appropriately and correctly so that later they will not make mistakes when they are older and give an unwanted impression. With all of this in mind it is completely up to the parents as to when they believe it is appropriate to wear make up. Unfortunately it is their house and their rules. That doesn't mean you can't ask or persuade your argument!

Of course all the 13-year-olds are going to answer "no."
12, probably. 13? I can understand some foundation/cover up and some lip gloss. I really don't think they need to be wearing too much eye makeup or anything. I think makeup at that age should be kept pretty simple, and definitely no lipstick.

Maybe a little too young for lipstick. I think you should be able to put more on as you get older, progressively. I am 13 and don't use much makeup, just a little mascara sometimes, smear of lip gloss, a little blush if I'm looking really pale. It's not really needed until you're older. And sometimes you don't know how to put it on right and end up looking like a clown. So be proud of your natural beauty and if you really must use makeup make sure that it's light, not shocking.

Yes, except for perhaps a little lip gloss for the middle school dance. Make-Up will make girls that age appear older, make adults treat them as if they were older and held to a more mature standard. Also, it could attract the attention of older boys too. All of which is too much for young girls to take on at age 12-13. Those are the last two years of childhood, just before they begin high school and prepare to start making adult decisions. That is one reason they have Middle School for kids that age - to let them transition from true childhood to the pre-adulthood years.

It goes alot beyond make-up. I was an employee, of a large State, and employed at a district middle school. Thongs hiked up the back of low ride blue jeans?? Yup. They could of looked like Bozo the clown. It wouldn't of mattered. I'm a hard core, old school, Dad, WITH a daughter. But not here. That didn't help. OMG. I wished I had a inkeling of a thought. Our daughter loved me, and taked to me. If you heard, you'd poop. As long as it isn't a Marks-alot, relax, and butter your toast. You don't even know the half of it. Keep in mind, I'm not your normal easy push over parent. If I'm told, whenever, catch you later, it's on right now. We'll do it now, just as quick as 2:00AM, or tomorrow morning. They know.

Yes that is too young, age 16 is an appropriate age for makeup for young women in my opinion. Which this is only an opinion not a guidline, I'm sure what you decide will be the right decision. Unless you are the child then it is ask your parents...

i started wearing makeup at 12. But just some eyeshadow. Then a little bit of liner, then some mascara. As i get older i wear more and more makeup. The last thing for me personally are things like concealer and blush.

I am ok with little girls playing dressup with makeup and by 12 years old if a girl would like to wear basics like eyeshadow, lip gloss, blush (light color) then that is ok. I don't think heavy makeup should be worn though like fondation, mascara, darker eyeshadows, eyeliners, dark blush and lipsticks until closer to 15/16 or older.

the question comes to mind, Why? Make-up generally is used to repair flaws in complexion, to make oneself more attractive to the opposite sex, to imitate movie stas, etc. Also doesn't a young person at this age have a lot of activities that would ruin make up, ie, sports, swimming, just playing, running. I don't think make-up is wrong, just unnecesary and asking for complexion problems with clogged pores.
