he issues a job, 1-2 weeks later, while the toolmaker and i are immersed in the job, he comes along and desides we need to be managed, but all he does is screw things up! he hasnt a clue, is this typical? middle management does nothing to help? upper management shoves their responsibilities down to the lowest level? paperwork bogs down all? why do the highest paid ppl do the least and the lowest do it all!???

The ultimate answer may be at the bottom of your legs. Feet. Take a walk and get a better job. No need to suffer a bad boss. Find something else and then announce that you are leaving "for reasons of personal advancement" and "to seek wider opportunities" and a lot of fuzzy, nice sounding stuff like that. Not a good idea to leave a lot of broken glass on the floor by telling folks you are leaving because the boss is a jerk. But, leave.

just start correcting him in every mistake he makes and eventally he'll get tired or tell boss
