According to the story I read in one of the Darwin Awards books, he jumped out of a plain without protective clothing in the middle of the wilderness in November. He couldn't do anything with the money, as he probably died not long after jumping out of the plane.

It was buried by a grain silo and then later a suburb was built on top of it. You'll have to dig through somebody's garage floor to get to it. And oh, yeah... there's about five million left.

When he went to open his parachute, he pulled the rip cord and camping equipment came out...He was killed on impact and was never found, along with most of the money.
