I was about to answer that the Egyptians were Polytheistic, but then I realized that I wasn't sure about the answer. However, the Egyptian religion was not one of the three great desert religions, Jewish, Islamic and Christian which were all monotheistic, so I assume that it was polytheistic, which was the preceding type of Religion.
My own assumption is that Monotheistic Religion which predominated in later human society was a naturally transition based more on the way government was being organized after the weakening and finally collapse of the governments like in Egypt and Greece, but a government ruled and governed eventually by the sovereign state but not the holy state.
This simplification was a necessary change so that government could control the population in a more manageable level and a more rational level. In other words, the people could begin to participate in the government in many more rational and flexible manors necessary to the running of a more flexible rational government system.

Egyptians were polytheistic for most of their 3500+ history except during the reign of Akhenaten, who established the world's first monotheistic religion with the worship of the Aten, his own 'personal' god of the sun disk, in the 14th century BC. There are some theories that he influenced Moses and Judaism.

Also, they didn't actually believe the pharaoh was a god. They considered him SEMI-divine and that he became a full god only at death.

The Egyptians had many gods.
The god that was the most important was determined by the whims of the pharoah. Some pharoahs were partial to one or the other god. Or goddess.
