If he can pull himself up, you need to remove the bumpers so he cannot climb on them and fall out. Also lower your mattress as far as you can to help prevent climbing out.

Bumpers are no longer seen as safe as they can pose a suffocation risk for babies. Once baby is sitting up on his own, trying to crawl and can possibly pull himself up to standing you should remove all toys and bumpers from the bed as they can be used to climb out causing injuries from falling out of the crib. If you are putting baby in the crib at 8 month old yes remove the bumpers and toys from the crib first and make sure it is on the lowest level as this is the point when a lot of babies try to climb out. The bars are close enough together to keep the baby safe but not so close that they should get stuck.

My daughter is nine months. I never even used the bumpers though because she just pulled on them and it was such a bother. Sounds like you are having the same issue I had. As far as the bars being exposed it is ok at this point. He will get his legs stuck and maybe a arm but its ok. My daughter does that too and she has also learned how to get herself out. Cribs are generally made safe and as long as he can not get his head thru the bars it is ok. I hope that helps, good luck :)

If he can pull up to a standing position...he is close at 8 months...then take them out. The reasoning: he can use them to get closer to the top and climb out (fall out) of the crib. He may get his foot stuck. My kids did at times, but he can through the bottom of top of the bumpers, too!

My daughter is 8 1/2 months and I took hers out 3 or 4 months ago. They are already getting into everything and you don't want him tangled up in a bumper..that could lead to tragedy. He'll bump his head once or twice but then he'll figure out not to roll that way, my little girl did...
You have a Christmas baby too :))

if you have a newer crib then it will be fine to take the bumpers down. there should be a can with between each bar and newborns arnt supposed to have bumpers in there cribs so your baby will be fine there just for decoration anyways

honestly the bumpers pads are dangerous..they have been known to suffocate baby's...my daughter sleeps without one and shes fine..as long as the bars on the crib aren't separated enough for the baby to put his/her head trough everything should be fine

He should be fine without the bumpers at 8 months.
It might be safer to take them out anyhow because of the fact he tears them down. He could get tangled in them or something.
Plus if he takes them down they aren't doing any good anyhow.

My pediatrician told me to through out the bumpers and never install them on my babies crib. They are a strangulation hazard.
Good luck!
