What was the origin and key characteristics of slavery in British North America during the seventeenth century?

Most of the slave trade centered around the spanish. Some brit merchants would trade them off to the Spanish who wewre already in N. America. The book I read claimed they would capture bad tribes men like cannibles. Of course later when the colonies were taking shape - but that wasn't strictly British. So a lot remains unsaid, but that makes sense unfortunatly.

IN ABOUT 1630 A BRITISH SLAVER BROUGHT A LOAD OF SLAVES TO BOSTON BUT NO ONE WANTED THEM SO HE TOOK THEM TO VIRGINIA WHOSE CASH CROP WAS TOBACCO A VERY LABOR INTENSIVE CROP. AND THE FARMERS BOUGHT THEM UP SINCE AT THAT TIME SLAVERY WAS LEGAL IN ENGLAND AND ALL COLONIES AND POSSESSIONS IT CAUGHT ON BUT WAS NEVER POPULAR IN THE NORTH OR FAR WEST.
