I don't know the details in Washington, but the process is similar in most states. You go to the local court and fill out a form. You are usually required to publish your intent in one or more major papers for a set period of time. If no one challenges the change in that time, you pay a fee and your name is changed. As long as the court has no reason to believe you are changing your name for fraudulent reasons, it is normally a formality.

"The process consists of completing a Petition for Name Change and an Order for Name Change. The original Petition is filed with the clerk in any district court division located within the county of your residence. Photo ID may be required. Once the Petition has been completed, the case will be presented to a judge for approval and signature."

The fees depend on the county. King County has a good web page with the information and forms (couldn't find the equivalent for Lewis County) -- you should be able to use these forms, then go to the county courthouse and ask the clerk for the fees. http://www.metrokc.gov/kcdc/ncinfo.htm
