Yes you can- Get some Turtle Wax. I used that stuff on my brother's new Corvette and it works like a charm!

Chrome does not rust. It is the metal underneath.
It has microscopic cracks to clean it with an alcohol based cleanser. Most importantly, seal it. A furniture polish that has wax in it will seal the little cracks that can allow rust. Once rust sets up it will pop off the chrome.

Be careful. Many chrome cleaners are abrasive and will further expose the base metal which will then rust easier. Wax is good for protection. Something not so good but handy is an oily rag. I use it on my outdoor tools.

There is a cleaner for metals my brother uses for the rims on his truck, it's a metal polish, but I believe it can be used for chrome. It's called, "Never Dull." It's a cotton that has the special medicine on it that shines the metal, you don't need much of it, also protects against rust. You can find it at Wal-Mart, in the Auto Section, it's very affordable. :)

As ridiculous as this sounds...lighter fluid. Nothing in the worls cleans chrome better than lighter fluid. Afterwards, use some auto wax to reseal the finish.
