Just a few of my favorite songs are :
Hillbilly Deluxe - Brooks & Dunn
Believe - Brooks & Dunn
Broken - Lindsey Haun
and when the songs come on radio I sang ( that's right sang ) the hell out of them and people act like it's a crime to be black and like country. Is that a crime or just knowing good music?

Good for you I say not to mention that I love the songs you chose to list. I have faithfully purchased every CD Brooks and Dunn have ever recorded and I truly believe that Ronnie Dunn has an exceptional voice as well as Lindsey. While I don't limit my listening to them alone, Brooks and Dunn are right at the top of my list and that is because I appreciate Ronnie's vocal ability.

Don't feel alone about people not understanding your liking some country music. People have preconceived notions about what country music is or about and since they don't listen, they are not aware of the many different artists out there. I get laughed at it by people to but the truth is, most that are exposed to one artists that they like, eventually turn the page and find themselves listening and discovering more and more artists that they actually like.

I am sure that there is some truth that as a black person, you are probably among a minority who appreciate country music which is funny because a lot of it started in the south and evolved from folk and blues.

Thre are several black artists involved with country music and Ray Charles was definitely one that crossed the lines and brought other classic R&B and blues listeners into it. There was also Charlie PRide who had a beautiful, smooth voice. My personal opinion is that it is debateable as to whether Cowboy Troy is considered country. There are also two young females who happen to be black that are getting more and more people to appreciate their choice of country,. One is Rissi Palmer but the other who is less known and absolutely fantastic is Miko Marks. She has a pure voice, nothing contrived about it and is following more in the footsteps of classic country sound.

This is an example of Miko's work.

I've got two words for you. Charley Pride. One of my favorite country singers, if not one of my favorite singers, period. Listen to some of his music and you'll see what the roots of country music are all about. He is b-l-a-c-k. Hell, I could care less; his music creates colors of its own.

Welcome to the C&W club, whatever the hell color you are.

By the way, I'm a 38-year-old white guy, and you should see my record collection. It's about half R&B from the '60s - early '80s, and my favorites fall in the range of the Stylistics, The Delfonics, the Spinners... along with all that classic country. So there you go. My white friends give me crap about all the smooth Russell Thompkins sound too.

By the way, get hold of a CD called Rhythm and Country Blues. There are fantastic duets on this album by the likes of George Jones and BB King, (old friends who must have had a LOT of fun cutting a record together,) then there's a tough version of "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing" by none other than Vince Gill and Gladys Knight, and there are many others you'd never put together in a million years in your head, but that came together and made music colorblind.

Not to mention the number of country/R&B crossovers. Somebody or other did a version of John Michael Montgomery's song, I Swear, then there's I'm Not Going Hungry Anymore, cut by both Charlie Rich and Tyrone Davis, and I'm not sure which one did it first, and there are others.

Cowboy Troy (Who Is That), Charlie Pride and Ray Charles are some of the earlier country singers I can remember; Nelly made a song with Tim McGraw and I'm a fan of country music too.

Why not?
Country music main influence might be the blues. Those good ol' boys from the Mississippi Delta made that happen. Muddy Waters, B.B. King, and Taj Mahal. I like it all. Yep, I'm a white hillbilly that enjoys music by black folks.

Please don't report me, just keepin' it honest.

I don't see a problem. people are so lame sometimes. There are a few black country singers, including a beautiful girl who is a newcomer- can't remember her name, but I think she was featured in Country Weekly magazine. Charley Pride, Trini Triggs- he's HOT!, Cowboy Troy, and there are plenty of black backup singers and musicians in country music. You keep listening and I know you'll like even more than you already do

Too many people stereotype, think only certain types of people only listen to certain kinds of music. Back a few years back, the company I worked for wanted to advertise on the radio, and they were trying to target certain kinds of people. When someone suggested the local country music station, our CEO said "No, only the uneducated listen to country..."

Such attitudes still exist.

I know what you are saying though. I had a friend back in the military who knew he was odd, he was black and he only listened to heavy metal, I mean the really hard stuff. Never bothered him, yet he found himself defending it all the time.

Don't sweat it.

Good for you! Like what you like!

P.S. note to rebel sweetheart- you ought to do a little research before making comments that make you seem foolish.

1) Country music is anglo folk music combined with black american music

2) Virtually every major artist that defined country music had a black mentor - from Jimmie Rodgers to Roy Acuff, Hank Williams to Bill Monroe, A.P. Carter to Bob Wills.

Guess then you're in the "same boat" as me: I'm German and love American Country (not the German stuff). Many people over here in Germany wonder and have no clue when I tell them my favorite is Trace Adkins! Anyways, what has the color of skin to do with the favorite music style?

Don't worry about what other people thing. It's not important.

I suppose you could say that I'm too old to like Cowboy Troy, but he is one of my favorites and I bought his new CD. I'm a 62 year old white woman--so what? I also like classical music and 80's big hair music like Whitesnake and Bon Jovi and I even have a Kid Rock CD and I will listen to whomever I wish and make no apologies for it. Life if to short to worry about what anyone else thinks of you. Just be yourself and like whatever music you like.
