My current graphic chipset is intel gma950.

I have read on the internet that some dell inspiron 6400 have an option to choose between an Intel intergrated chipset and a Nvidia Geforce 7300 Go card. Does this mean I can replace my chipset with a Nvidia Geforce 7300 Go?

NOT possible on a laptop!

OR you could give it a try and probably turn your laptop into a desktop then tell us all about your "experiment" (or misadventure).

You can't do it, the Intel GMA 950 is an integrated graphics card that is part of the motherboard. You would have had to buy the 7300 when it was new as part of the motherboard that came with it, unfortunately, you can't change it now.

I doubt that you can replace the chip on your laptop, especially since it is a dell. Most laptops don't have nearly as much options for replacing components as desktops. The chip is physically soldered to the laptop motherboard and cannot be replaced. You will probably have to get a new laptop :(

You are talking about two different graphic cards and how they are used in a computer. One is built on the mother board the other is basically an external graphics card.
