i pick my own clothes, ok ill be serious.....Psychotherapy can offer different ways to help patients with this kind of problem:

1. Coping
Psycho-education about the causes and prevalence of the problem and ways to cope in everyday life might be helpful for most patients.
2. Relaxation
There are different ways to reduce stress and tension. Usually habitual problems are more severe if people are stressed. Learn muscle relaxation or any other kind of relaxation therapy.
3. Habit reversal
This is a special technique used to block unwanted habits. You learn to be specially aware of the habit and block it with another habit (like crossing your fingers or pressing the finger on your leg) which is incongruent with the unwanted habit. In some cases, an ointment which stops itching in the nose might help. Some people have found that mild hydrocortisone ointments or anti-biotic ointments containing fusidic acid help. You could discuss this with your doctor. They have a name for this thing you do, its called rhinotillexomania, who knew?

You may be one of those rare people blessed with a very efficient nose-cleaning system built in (snot is a way for the body to collect dirt and germs). But just in case you feel you must empty the snot with your fingers, develop the habit of carrying and using a handkerchief every day. Your friends and others will thank you for keeping the stuff off your fingers.
Just as in sneezing, turn your head away from other people and things like food.

In case you don't know, the way to use the 'kerchief is to blow into it, not cover the finger with it as you pick away. Emptying the nose is made more thorough if you press one nostril closed as you empty the other by blowing, then alternating sides.

I know most people are usually gonna be like EWWWW but I bet people do it all the time. I think we all do sometimes. I've seen my 21 year old brother do it repetatly. I think it's the doing it in public and not washing your hands often enough that is gross. Try really hard not to do it. If you don't so whatever your habit is for 20 days then you will most likely not do it again. Use tissues.

If it's a nervous habit, you need to find something else to do with your hands. Talk to a school counselor for suggestions.

If you're doing it to relieve discomfort, work on how and where. Sitting at your desk with your finger in your nose is gross. Standing at a bathroom sink using a tissue isn't (wash up when you're done).
